A WOMAN of Lusaka’s Kanyama Township has dragged her boyfriend to Kanyama Local court for failing to pay child support.

Regina Mwanza, 24, sued her boyfriend Aston Zulu, 23, of the same locality for not supporting the children.

Facts before the court were that the two have been in a relationship since 2016 and have two children with the first one being 2 years and the other 3 months; since the birth of the first child no support has ever been given.

Regina told the court that what shocked her was that her boyfriend could not provide for his two children though he was a bricklayer.

“Olo matebela niyopa ku yanika panja chifukwa nio tombela kuipa no soap, lotion bana balibe. Even nappies for the babies I can’t hang them outside because they are too dirty it’s embarrassing no soap to wash them properly,” Regina said.

She told the court that she did not want to stay with her boyfriend because his married but that if he could support the children then she can be happy.

In defense Aston said he had tried to support the children but that it was not easy because being  a bricklayer depends on piece works.

He said the mother of his children should understand that it’s not easy for him as he has two families to feed.

“We have two children together yes and I’m willing to support my children as soon as I find some piece works,” he said.

In passing judgment magistrate Esther Mulomba ordered Aston Zulu to support his children or he will go jail.

The magistrate also told Aston to be paying K600 monthly as child support failure to which he will be arrested.
