IN an effort to generate funds, the Reformed Church in Zambia (RCZ) Northmead Congregation yesterday commissioned a new K246, 000 building at the church premises for renting purposes.

Congregation resident minister, Reverend Daniel Banda said that the church taught the value of hard work and the character that was expected to be seen in Christianity.

Rev. Banda said that it was wrong for the church to borrow from outside, saying that it was important for the church to find ways and means of generating its own income.

He said that the building commissioned would be open to individuals or companies that may wish to hold their conferences at the complex at a fee.

He said that the church members came   together and contributed whatever little they had towards the building, a situation he said was pleasing.

“The construction of this building is basically a response to the vision of the RCZ that we must be local congregations that are self-supporting,

“ Looking at our context here in Northmead, most houses have been turned into companies and we think there is need to provide a place for workshops as an income generating venture that will help the church stand on  its own,’’ he said.

And projects committee chairperson Owen Matoto, said that the project started in 2013 and was budgeted at K420, 000.

Mr. Matoto said that the church thought that it could create space for visitors and a place where the congregants could be having their meals from.

He said that the congregants together with the sister churches had been cooperative in contributing money towards the construction of the building.

“This is an achievement that all of the congregants should be proud of. We need to continue with the spirit of working together and we will achieve greater things together as a church,” he said
