Newborn baby abandoned in bush

AN UNKOWN mother of Chipata District of Eastern Province has reportedly dumped her newborn baby in the bush.

Eastern Province Police Commissioner Luckson Sakala who confirmed the sad development said the new born baby was dumped in the bush behind the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) offices along Chipata-Lusaka Road. 

Mr Sakala said the baby who was found by one of the members of the public who had gone to RTSA to get a driver’s license and heard a baby crying. 

He said a member of the public alerted RTSA officers, who reported the matter to the police and the Zambia Fire Brigade Officers.

“This man found the baby in the bush where he had gone to relieve himself,” Mr Sakala said

Mr Sakala said the officers RTSA and fire brigade picked the baby and took it to Chipata General Hospital for treatment.

The Police commissioner who could not give more details on the baby just said it was responding well to treatment.

“The baby is currently at Chipata Hospital but as Police, we’ve launched a manhunt for its mother,” he said.
