POLICE in Isoka have warned and cautioned a 34 year old village headman for allegedly defiling a girl believed to be 13 years.
Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Joel Njase said Mwaiseni village headman in Chief Kafwimbi’s area identified as Anthony Siame , 34 is alleged to have defiled a girl believed to be a minor.
‘‘We received a report of defilement where Anthony Siame aged 34years, a village headman of Mwaiseni Chief Kafwimbi of Isoka, alleged to have defiled a girl of unknown age of the same abode,’’ Mr Njase said.
Mr Njase said the victim was being kept by the suspect when the incidence occurred in December 2018 on an unknown date.
Mr Njase said the suspect was apprehended on Friday warned and cautioned and was later released on police bond on Saturday. “The suspect was released on police bond on Saturday to pave way for further investigations to seek and ascertain the age of the girl,’’ he said.
And Mr Njase said police in Muchinga province have embarked on public sensitization to create awareness on cases of defilement, rape and gender based violence.
He said police have noted with concern the rising cases of defilement, rape and GBV hence the sensitization.
Isoka District has in the recent past recorded an increase in the number of defilement with about six reported cases in January 2019.
