THE progressive move by Government to reduce user fees in public schools is welcomed because it will enable vulnerable parents to educate their children, the Zambia Consumer Association (ZACA) has said.
Minister of General Education David Mabumba announced in Parliament that user fees at all public schools will be reduced next term to increase access to education.
In an interview with the Sun, ZACA executive secretary Juba Sakala applauded government for the move describing it as a progressive policy.
“We applaud the move by Government to reduce school fees for learners.
“The move will not only relieve the parents’ financial burden towards their children ‘ education, but Will also improve learner enrolment thus meeting the country’s goal towards universal access to education,” Mr Sakala said.
He, however, implored parents to support the policy by taking their children to school and paying the fees on time.
“We therefore call upon the parents to support this progressive policy by paying for their children’s school fees timely,” he said.
