A Lusaka local court has ordered a woman to compensate her neighbour whom she reportedly insulted in public and for no apparent reason. Matero Local Court presiding magistrate Miyanda Banda ordered Sanfrossa Sompa, 22, of George Compound, to compensate Alice Tembo, 25, with K1, 000 for saying she ‘stole’ other women’s husbands and slept around with men. Ms Tembo told the court that the incident happened on Thursday March 28 as she was washed clothes at her house. She said that she overheard Ms Sompa talking about her sister-in-law saying she had big breasts despite being a child. Ms Tembo said that Ms Sompa’s statement upset her and she told her off saying she should instead go for prayers if she had nothing else to do. “I left the house to go to visit and when I returned, I found kids who told me Ms Sompa was insulting at my house,” said Ms Tembo. She said that Ms Sompa insulted her further and attempted to put up a fight when she confronted her about the insults. “She told me that I stole another woman’s husband and that I sleep around with men. I decided to bring her to court so that she can be disciplined,” said Ms Tembo. But Ms Sompa in her defence accused Ms Tembo of insulting her and said she did not mention any one’s name when she was talking with her husband. “She found me cooking when she came to my home and called me a dog,” Ms Sompa said. The court advised Ms Sompa it was against the law to insult people and that she should always try to sit down and discuss issues with people if she was offended. “Even if you were denying you insulted, the law does not allow insulting people. It’s not good to insult if you have issues with someone sit down and talk about it.
“You will compensate Tembo with a K1, 000 and the payment is effective on 30 April,” ordered Magistrate Banda said the court
