Woman, 66, dies in road crash

A 66-year- old woman in Kabompo has died after a trailer of a speeding motor vehicle rolled over her.The woman identified as Grace Mtonga was run over as she was walking on the pedestrian track and dies upon arrival at Kabompo District Hospital.North-western province Commissioner of police, Elias Chushi, said accident happened on Wednesday around 12:00 hours at Kufwayinda village along Zambezi road.He identified the driver as Frederick Bwalya, aged 36, whose motor vehicle, Toyota Surf, was towing an unregistered trailer.Due to excessive speed, he said, the trailer detached from the vehicle and rolled out to the left side of the road and hit into a pedestrian.“And due to the impact, the victim sustained fatal injuries and died upon arrival at Kabompo District Hospital,” he said.Mr Chushi said the body has been deposited in Kabompo District Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem while the driver of Ndeke compound in Zambezi district has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man has drowned in Kabompo River and the body was discovered decomposed.According to details made available to the Daily Nation, the man went missing for some days and was only discovered later.Mr Chushi confirmed the sad development and identified the deceased as Davy Weyeke of Chisokone village in Pokola area.Mr Chushi explained that Mr Weyeke went missing from home on Sunday but was later found floating on Kabompo River at Lumbwe crossing point.“The Police were later informed and visited the scene, and the body was found partially decomposed such that, the body was buried there and then,” he said.

He stated that no foul play was suspected.
