THE 2020 Volleyball League is the latest victim to face an abrupt end as the Zambia Volleyball Association (ZAVA) has announced the cancellation of the national league and all games for the year 2020 due to covid-19 pandemic.
This comes after a stakeholders meeting held on Saturday afternoon that deliberated on the calendar of volleyball activities.
ZAVA general secretary Gift Chisekela confirmed the development in an interview.
“We had a meeting on Saturday and we have concluded that the National league and all leagues for this year be cancelled. The Beach Volleyball tour to Mongu in Western province has been re-scheduled to the third week of November 2020, while ZAVA nationals will take place in the first week of December this year,”Chisekela said.
“However we have decided to conduct Capacity Building courses for both coaches and referees later this year around November to December,” he said.
In a bid to keep the athletes fit the association has given a go ahead to teams to play friendlies where not more than two teams participate to avoid large numbers of people mixing. He has urged players, coaches and referees to adhere to the public health guidelines of masking up and social distancing to avoid the spread and contracting of the deadly virus.
