SOUTHERN Water and Sanitation Company Limited remains committed to provide clean and safe water to its customers, its board chairperson, Mr Richwell Siamunene has said.
Mr Siamunene was speaking during the mini launch of the Urban and Peri-Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Report 2019 at SWASCo in Choma.
The company also awarded its employees and towns for exceptional input that led to the firm being awarded the first prize for being the best water utility company in 2019.
Mr Siamunene said despite 2019 being the most difficult year for the company due to the effects of climate change that saw most of the water reservoirs drying up, it remained resolute and steadfast to ensure that quality service was provided to its customers.
He said SWASCo is working with Government to ensure that clean and safe drinking water and affordable sanitation services are accessed by everyone.
“This occasion is therefore an opportunity for us to entrench our culture of quality service delivery to drive the development agenda of the government that espouses ‘leaving no one behind’ in accessing clean and safe drinking water and quality and affordable sanitation services.”
“We also want to remind ourselves to focus on the strategic direction of the company to ensure we remain relevant in the national development agenda” he said.
Mr Siamunene disclosed that SWASCo has made huge strides in extending service coverage with 95.3 percent water coverage from 88 percent in 2018 while sanitation coverage is at 86 percent from 59 percent in 2018.
He expressed happiness to the Chief Executive Officer Mr Gift Moondeto learn that the firm is making efforts to mobilise capital resources from cooperating partners like Climate Resilience Infrastructure Development Fund CRIDF, the African Development Bank among others to address the problem of infrastructure in water utilities.
