A 67 YEARS OLD woman narrated before the Choma Magistrates Court on how her biological son whilst wielding a knife and threatening to kill her burnt her beddings and clothes on accusations that she caused the death of his sibling.
In this matter Nelly Mweetwa was testifying against her son Isaac Muchindu, 41, who is charged with threatening violence and malicious damage to property contrary to the laws of Zambia.In count one, Muchindu with intent to cause alarm or harm whilst holding a knife threatened Nelly Mweetwa with personal injury, to which he said “I will kill you.”In the second count, Muchindu is alleged to have burnt 3 Blankets, 2 Pairs of Bed sheets, 2 Chitenge Materials, 2 Hand Bags, 1 Cell phone among other items all valued at K1,950 the property of his mother Nelly Mweetwa.The alleged incidents are said to have happened on October 26 in Choma district of Southern Province.When the matter came up for trial, Mweetwa testified before Resident Magistrate Ethel Phiri that when her son got home on that fateful evening, he grabbed a knife and started accusing her of causing the death of his sibling using black magic.She said, upon realising that he was not joking, she rushed to her neighbours for safety. “He got my clothes, his sisters clothes, my phone and burnt them while I watched helplessly,” she testified.The matter was later reported to Choma’s Shampande Police Post where detective sergeant Kenneth Mwangala charged and arrested the suspect for the subject offences.
