RESIDENTS of Kimasala ward in Solwezi, North Western Province have taken on their area ward councillor Nephan Kamwandi whom they have accused of failing their area.
The residents said the area had numerous challenges which needed the attention of the civic leader who had allegedly failed to avail himself to the people to discuss issues affecting the ward
This came to light during a Community Action Group held at Chamuta Community School where its chairman Emmanuel Chabala said the problems the ward was facing were too many and required the attention of the civic leader.
Mr Chabala said the poor road network, water and dilapidated bridges as some of the things that needed immediate attention of the councillor among others.
He said most of the township roads are impassable especially during the rainy season.
“And when we talk of water, most of the houses especially in compounds like Zambia, Kyawama and Highland do not have tap water. So, these are some of the things we need to address, but he is nowhere to be seen,’’ Mr Chabala said.
He accused the area councillor of not having held a single meeting called by residents from the time he was elected into office, a situation he described as unfortunate.
He said provision of clean water which was an important commodity to human beings was promised to them by the councillor.
Mr Chabala further said that most of the bridges in the area were dilapidated and posing danger to members of the community especially school going children.
But when contacted for a comment Mr Kamwandi said he was busy but would be available for an interview on Monday next week.
“I am busy but can only be available for an interview on Monday around 10:00 hours,” said Mr Kamwandi
