Expecting mothers at Shifwankula Clinic, in Lusaka’s Six miles area, will soon have a place to live and a place to deliver from, following the construction of a mothers’ shelter there.

This follows the construction of a mothers’ shelter and a maternity wing at the peri-urban clinic using Constituency Development Funds.

Chunga ward councilor, Ms. Kangwa Kayula, said recently that the three-roomed building structure is almost complete and would soon be handed over to the community.

“The building has reached roof level,” Ms. Kangwa said.

He appealed to people in the area to look after the clinic because it is the only health facility there.

Meanwhile, the councilor says she is happy that the bridge connecting Matero Township to the Katuba farming block has now been repaired.

She observed that the bridge was in such a dangerous state that most pedestrians, especially school going children and marketeers, resorted to using a makeshift rail line bridge to cross the stream.

“This bridge was in a deplorable state. People have been reporting their concerns to me. My fear was that it would cause death and I get blamed,” she said.

She commended the Road Development Agency (RDA) for quickly responding to her please for repairs on the bridge.

She also praised her ward development committee for supporting her efforts to develop Chunga Ward.
