ZAMBIA Rugby Union (ZRU) General Secretary Francis Chitambo says he will no recontest his position at the forthcoming general election in order to give chance to other people to lead the union.
Chitambo, who has so far served seven years as union general secretary, says his shift from Lusaka and current job commitments make it difficult for him to continue serving as general secretary.
“I am not in Lusaka anymore so I feel I may be failing to meet certain deadlines,” says Chitambo said.
“It’s time to give a chance to other rugby devotees to manage the affairs of the sport in the country,” further stated Chitambo who indicated he would still be available to assist those who would elected into office at the next Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The Zambia Rugby Union AGM is scheduled to be held on Feb 16 in Ndola and so far, Chitambo says, only the incumbent president Clement Sinkamba has indicated willingness to recontest his position.
“We are yet to receive formal notifications from any members willing to contest positions,” he said.
Members interested in contesting position in the union are expected to file-in nominations two weeks before the AGM.
Chitambo initially served as a ZRU committee member before being elected to the position of general secretary, a post he has held from 2011.
