LILIAN CHIKANDI writes

THE Zambia Red Cross Society has opened a branch in ChirunduDistrict and formed an interim committee that will run for three months.

Chirundu district  Red Cross Society president   Godwin Munsanje said the district has only had an aid unit under Siavonga and most activities were implemented by that office but now a branch has been established to respond to covid19 outbreak considering that it is a border town.

Mr Munsanje stated that the purpose of the meeting held in the immigration board room was to introduce it to the District Commissioner’s office so that it is  aware of the organization established in the district.

He said the organization has structures at National, provincial, branch and voluntary aid units committee mandated to prevent and avert calamities without any discrimination.

Mr Munsanje also high lightened  that Red Cross Society aims at  Protecting life, Respect, relieve suffering and give priority to most distressed people in calamities and does not take sides.

The movement is Independent but observing the law and its Voluntary relief is neither for political nor personal gains so that its Universality status is embarrassed.

District commissioner  Stafford Kayame  also said for one to join   Red Cross society they need to have passion for humanity and saving lives if they are to effectively work .

Mr Kayame has urged the committee members to give themselves time when to meet and familiarize themselves with the Constitution and grow it together and help the district in times of disaster.

He said Red Cross is an important organization in any country especially in the health sector.

He has expressed gratitude that ZRCS service had come at the right to help the government in sensitizing communities in the district.
