A newborn baby has died after he was circumcised at his home, according to reports.
The tot’s mum and gran have both been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
A “holy man” said to have carried out the procedure has also been detained by police in Quezzi, near Genoa, Italy.
The baby was just a few weeks old, reports say.
It’s believed the 25-year-old mum is Nigerian and the father still lives in the country.
It comes after a five-month-old baby died in March in Bologna, Italy, after his parents allegedly performed a circumcision at home.
A manslaughter probe has opened in the wake of that tragedy.
And in December, a two-year-old boy died of severe blood loss as a result of a botched circumcision in Rome.
His twin brother also nearly died, but survived following intensive care treatment.
The surgeon in that case was believed to be an American citizen of Libyan origin.
Circumcision is not practised among the majority of Italian citizens, who are Roman Catholic.
Around 35% of circumcisions in Italy are believed to take place in people’s homes.
Privately it can cost about £3,500 but illegal practitioners can charge as little as £17 in backstreet clinics.
