ABOUT 30 coaches drawn from across the country have undergone a coaching basics training conducted by Netball Zambia.

The two days Coaching course was held over the weekend at Napsa Sports Complex in Lusaka with the expectation that attendees will stand a better chance in performing well at their various clubs when the league resumes.Leading the training sessions was the experienced Moses Malama who is part of the technical team of Netball Zambia.“We are training the new basics for the coaches and the reason we are doing this is because Netball Zambia has decided that no unqualified people will be allowed to be near the technical bench.“This is the first group we have and we will monitor how they are going to move from here to level one up to the highest level because what they have come to tap here will help their various club perform better as the league resumes later on,” said Malama.Meanwhile Netball Zambia vice president for technical – Jessie Hewuka said the association has come up with this course to help in capacity building.“All we want is to pump knowledge into our coaches because it’s from their clubs where we get national material to represent the country so the more we put knowledge in them the better for the association because national duty calls both players and the technical bench gets to understands the new things or how we want our girls to perform as we compete with other countries,” she said.Malama, who has been at the helm of community netball development since 2011, gained expertise from netball and event management courses under NIF and Ideals team with 7 universities who have partnered with Netball Zambia. He further attended a coach development programme in the United Kingdom as part of the 2019 World Cup legacy project in partnership with UK Sport, England Netball and International Netball Federation.

He has been behind the development of numerous players who today are in National Teams and include Joyce Mwanza, Besiya Katete and Elizabeth Bwalya among others.
