A civic leader in Mwinilunga District of Northwestern Province has thanked government for the advanced plans to commence rehabilitation works on the Solwezi-Mwinilunga road.Kawiko Ward Councilor, Boswell Kanema said the deplorable state of the road has made the delivery of goods and services to the area extremely difficult and expensive.Mr Kanema said the rehabilitation of the road will restore and increase economic activities in the district. He said this in a statement availed to the Zambia News and Information Services in Mwinilunga District today.“I wish to thank the government for the gesture taken for thinking of working on the Solwezi to Mwinilunga road which is in such a deplorable state,” Mr Kanema said.He said the deep potholes on the road pose danger to motorists as they are potential points of accidents. He has since asked government to consider working on parts of the parts of the road that has been extensively damage before the onset of the rains as they wait for the whole road to be rehabilitated. He said the current state of the road does not inspire investors who may have interests to invest in various economic activities in the area.Recently Minister of Foreign Affairs, Joseph Malanji visited the area and revealed that plans by government to work in on the road have advanced.Meanwhile, Mr Kanema has appealed to government to engage a capable and reliable contractor to work on the Mwinilunga-Ikeleng’i road which is equally in a deplorable state.

He said Ikeleng’i District is the major supplier of pineapples in the province hence the need to work on the road to avoid the commodity going to waste due to inaccessibility to the district by transporters. ZANIS
