Murder accused committed to High court

A Lusaka man charged with murder has been committed to the Lusaka high Court.

The Director of Public Persecutions has issued a certificate to commit the accused Trevor Simwanza 25 a businessman of George Compound to the High Court for causing the death of Partrick Mpundu on September 25 2020.Simwanza appeared before Lusaka magistrate Nsunge Chanda for explanation of the murder charge.Public prosecutor informed magistrate Chanda that the Director of Public Persecutions had issued a certificate to commit Simwanza to the High Court and the magistrate acted on the instructions.Simwanza said he had heard the charge and asked the court to grant him bail.Magistrate Chanda told Simwanza that the offence he committed was very serious and she can not grant him bail.She told Simwanza that he will remain in custody until he is told when he will be taken to the high Court for summary trial.Magistrate Chanda explained to Simwanza that he was appearing for her for explanation of the charge.Magistrate Chanda asked Simwanza if he has a private lawyer or he would like to be represented by a lawyer from legal aid.

Simwanza said he cannot afford a private lawyer and therefore would like to be represented by legal aid.
