ZAMBIA Bowling Association General Secretary, Foster Banda has appealed to the media to help popularize the sport in the country.

“We need support from everyone including the media because by talking to us, you are helping us market the sport,” said Banda.

She told The Sun in an interview that, “We are partners. We need you because people will only know about Bowling through the media.”

Banda observed that Bowling, being not a traditional sport, is expensive to run and would only be able attract sponsors if the media actively reported on it.

“The standard of Bowling in Zambia has over the years gone down due to lack of sponsorship,” she said.

She encouraged sports reporters to take interest in the sport and take time to watch it, in order to learn how to report it well.

“By coming to watch the game, you will even learn the art of Bowling and be able to understand the terminologies being used in the sport for effective reporting,” she said.

Meanwhile, Ms Banda said there currently only 8 active clubs in Zambia, with Lusaka having the highest number of members.

She named Nchanga, Chibuluma, Nkonkola, Kansenshi, Kansanshi and Lusaka as the active clubs.

She said that some clubs had stopped being active because of the high cost of managing the sport which is mostly played in Europe and South Africa.

Banda also disclosed that the 2019 Bowling league games would start in April.
