Lusaka housewife sues cruel hubby for divorce

TABITA MALAMBO  writes

A LUSAKA woman has pleaded with the Lusaka High Court to dissolve her four year marriage because her husband is violent and recently ruptured her ear drum during a fight.

Chisambi Nelllie Siamasamu sued Lawrence Siamasamu for divorce on account that he had been physically and psychologically abusive.

Ms Siamasamu says in her petition for dissolution of marriage that she is domiciled in Lusaka while her husband is currently in Uganda.

She laments that on one occasion, her husband tried to choke her to death after she confronted him about his whereabouts after reporting home late in the night.

She says she forgave him after that incident because she thought he was going to change.

But months later Mr Siamasamu slapped her badly during a confrontation and she ended up with ruptured ear drum.

Ms Siamasamu claims that her husband has been unfaithful and had shamelessly exchanged sensual messages with about three different women.

“The respondent is rarely found at his matrimonial home as he is always claiming that he was going out for business and when the petitioner complains he would say mean things to her such as; he felt that the marriage had become a prison because when he was single he did whatever he wanted and left his house or come back whenever he pleased,” reads part of the petition.

Ms Siamasamu further claims that her husband left Zambia over a year ago on the pretext that he was going for business in Uganda and has stopped communicating to her.

She says he has been promising to come back home for the past 1 year 6 months and all the dates suggested had not been true.

Ms Siamasamu says her husband refuses to disclose what keeps him in Uganda or his exact whereabouts.

She however says she could not reasonably be expected to live with him and prayed that the court dissolves the marriage and order settlement of properties.
