POLICE in Lusaka have apprehended and arrested three people in connection with a spate of robberies recently experienced in Lusaka’s Matero Township. This was after Police in the area received complaints from members of the public that gangs had emerged in Chitanda area of Chunga Compound and Shadreck area in George Compound. Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo in a statement said the police in the area conducted an operation and have managed to apprehend three suspects among them gang leaders. “The suspects have been identified as Bramo whose real identity is Abraham Zika, aged 22 of Matero Township, and he is alleged to be a leader of gang that has been terrorizing people in Shadreck area and a knife was recovered from him, Boyd Mwansa aged 19 alleged to be a leader of a gang that has been attacking people in Chitanda area and Lackson Daka aged 21,” Ms Katongo said. She said the suspects are in police custody charged with aggravated robbery. Ms Katongo also said in December, 2018 between 24th and 27th, in Matero Township, a report was received in which a resident of Maiteneke area was attacked by a criminal armed with a knife. “The criminals are alleged to have entered his shop and got away with K10, 000 and assorted items which included groceries all valued at K1, 725. Several other complainants had their phones and money grabbed on the streets of Matero by criminals armed with knives and other offensive weapons,” she said. Ms Katongo called upon members of the public who could have been attacked to go and identify the suspects at Matero Police Station.

She assured members of the public in Matero that the Police were working tirelessly to bring all perpetrators of crime to book.
