LAND is the most important asset that one can own, Capital Buses proprietor Ishmael Kankara has said following the acquisition of land for his employees.

Speaking in an interview, Mr Kankara said his company has acquired 16 hectares of land in Katuba area which will be shared among all the capital buses employees regardless of their position as long as they meet the laid down criteria.

He stated that his company is like a family and so he ensures that all employees must progress together.

Mr Kankara said the idea of buying a plot for employees started when a group of drivers comprising of 40 people bought a piece of land but failed to finish paying hence they approached him for help to pay the balance.

It was from here that he realised that all employees needed a piece of land were they could build houses.

“A group of drivers decided to buy land from the money they collect  among themselves, there were 40 to 50 drivers but they failed to finish paying, so they came to me for help I told them that if I was to help  all employees should have a piece of land, “he narrated.

Capital Buses chairperson Evans Mwape said the 16 hectares land will be subdivided into 250 plots which will comprise of 230 houses, a school and a clinic.

He said all the employees will benefit from the land empowerment project regardless of their position in the company.

He adds that the land is located in Zanga Zanga area, a few kilometres away from Kabwe Road and it will also have a commercial area, a car park and other services.

Mr Mwape thanked Mr Kankara for the gesture and explained that at first the committee wanted employees who have worked for more than three years but a big chunk of land remained so we gave it to all staff including cleaners.

He observed that some employers only give material gifts but for him he decided to empower them with land.
