CHIEF Mushima Mubambe of the Kaonde speaking people in Mufumbwe District has died.
The traditional leader died at his palace after being discharged from Mukinge Mission Hospital in Kasempa where he was receiving treatment.
North-western province Permanent Secretary, Willies Mangimela, confirmed the development in Solwezi yesterday.
Mr Mangimela said that the late chief died after a short illness.
“On behalf of the provincial administration and the entire government, I wish to inform the general public on the demise of His Royal Highness chief Mushima of Mufumbwe,” he said.
He said burial for the traditional leader would be announced as soon as arrangements are made.
The traditional leader, who had been on the throne for over 17 years, was key in spurring development in his chiefdom.
Apart from advocating for development in his chiefdom, the traditional leader was in forefront fighting child marriage in his chiefdom.
“We therefore wish to send our message of condolences to the people of Mushima and the royal family,” he said.
