JOHN KOMBE writes

AN 18-year-old male juvenile of Chombwa village in Chongwe has been sent to prison until 24 August for contempt of court when he appeared for trial in a matter before court.

Donald Mvula was appearing for trial in a matter in which he verbally assaulted a Mr. Bright Soko of the same village.

It is alleged that the accused did on February 25 insult the complainant at his residence.

The court heard that the accused was displeased with his father’s decision to sale a piece of land to the complainant.

Two witness both told the court that the accused visited the complainant and verbally abused him and threatened to kill him.

The accused evidentially used abusive language and disregarded court advice during the trial. He was warned not to use abusive language in court, but remained adamant.

The court therefore ruled that he be detained to serve as an example to would be offenders against the court.

The court adjourned the matter to 15 September and ordered that the accused be detained in custody until 24 August.

The accused will appear before court on 24 August for revisiting of his police bond conditions. He will however appear in court for continued trial on 15 September in his primary case.
