SUN SPORTS writes

THE 2020/2021 Wildcat Premier Futsal League (PFL) will kick off on 4 September , PFL chairman Tarak Mehta has said.

Mehta said the PFL is doing everything to ensure that the league returns after the 2019-2020 Futsal season was declared null and void due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In an interview, Mehta said there is need for teams in the Super League and the Division One to speed up the process of registration because the PFL is ready to start the new season.

He said PFL has delayed to resume the league to supplement the government’s efforts in preventing the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic which caused the premature end of the 2019/2020 Futsal season.

Mehta said the Wildcat PFL will come up with strict measures aimed at promoting the players’ safety when the league returns.

“The Wildcat PFL has been conforming to the directives from the government the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Sports which had banned all contact sports.

“And even when semi contact sports was allowed to resume, we didn’t start immediately because we wanted to plan wisely for the new season and now we are ready. The proposed date for the commencement of the new season is Friday, September 4,” Mehta said.

Mehta reaffirmed PFL’s commitment to continue developing futsal as a sport which is loved by youths with diffferent social backgrounds.

He said the futsal league will have 10 competitive teams which will be paid by the PFL.

Mehta encourage teams in Lusaka wishing to try out Futsal to register for the division one league where teams will have to impress to qualify for the Super League.

He said deadline for registration of teams in both super division and division one is August 15.
