THE Chipata Magistrate Court has sentenced a fuel attendant at Kobil Filling Station in Chipata to 2 years imprisonment with hard labour for stealing money for the company.Isaac Msoni appeared before Resident Magistrate Destine Kalusopa for one count of theft by servant.Particulars of the offence were that Msoni on 23 August 2020 in Chipata as a person who was employed as fuel attendant at Kobil Filling Station stole 35,100 Kwacha property of Kobil Filling Station.Msoni readily admitted the charge when he appeared for plea and was convicted accordingly. It is alleged that Msoni did not report for work on the material day when the Director of the company went for auditing and that they could not find the money for the fuel he sold the previous day.He was apprehended from Chief Mafuta’s area where he was hiding. In mitigation Msoni asked the court for forgiveness and asked if he can be paying back the money in installments. But when passing judgement Magistrate Kalusopa said that Msoni was dishonest to the people who employed him by stealing from them.Magistrate Kalusopa stated that if Msoni needed some money, he could have asked his employers for help.

He therefore, sentenced him to 2 years imprisonment with hard labour effective from 1st September, which is the day of arrest.
