Former vice-President Mr Lupando Mwape has died.
Mr Mwape died in South Africa yesterday where he was evacuated for specialist treatment last week.
He served as vice president in the Movement for Multiparty Democracy Government of late President Frederick Chiluba from 2004 to 2006.
Meanwhile, President Edgar Lungu has expressed regret at the death of Mr Mwape and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.
“The President is deeply saddened and prays that God almighty will grant the bereaved family solace and fortitude as they mourn their beloved,” stated the special assistant to the President, Mr Amos Chanda in a statement availed to The Sun.
Mr Chanda also announced that cabinet office has been instructed to prepare for a state funeral in honour of the former vice president.
