THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has warned people trading in counterfeit FAZ branded products to stop the practice or face arrest.
FAZ Deputy General Secretary Joseph Chimpampwe says FAZ is working closely with the law enforcement agencies to curb the sale of goods bearing forged trademarks
In a statement issued by FAZ Communications Manager Sydney Mungala, Chimpampwe said the association is concerned with the increase in the number of counterfeit replica jerseys as well as other items being sold that bear the FAZ logo.
Chimpampwe said the FAZ logo is a property of the Football Association of Zambia and registered as a trademark and using it on forged goods is a crime punishable by law.
“We would like to strongly warn the people dealing in counterfeit FAZ replicas that we will continue clamping down on them. A recent operation salvaged some replicas that bear the FAZ logo that were being sold illegally with the culprits brought to book,” Chimpampwe said.
“We wish to put it on record that sale of goods bearing forged trademarks is an offence c/Sec 6(1) (a) of the Merchandise Act Cap. 405 of the laws of Zambia.”
Chimpampwe reminded the public of a Chinese national Huang Bing who was sentenced to nine months in imprisonment with hard labor by the Lusaka Magistrate Court for selling fake national team replica jerseys in 2018.
He said FAZ will conduct random operations across the country to deal with culprits trading in counterfeit FAZ branded products.
Chimpampwe has urged football lovers to buy authentic FAZ merchandise available at designated dealers and also at Football House.
