FAZ presidential aspirant Gideon Mwenya has remained tight-lipped over some endorsements he has continued to receive online from some prominent personalities and football administrators.
The Sun sports caught up with the Chingola based football administrator who is president of Konkola Mine Police Football Club, a Chililabombwe based Copperbelt division 2 club who confirmed receiving reasonable number of endorsements from his well-wishers.
“Ever since my name started making headlines in the media, I’ve been receiving a lot of phone calls, inboxed messages and visits from various people in football, some from childhood friends who I have not seen in a long time but wanting to locate me.’’
“What I can tell you for now is that I have always been ready to serve Zambian football at any level having been Chairman of Konkola Mine Police Football Club from 2008 to date, where I’ve guided the club in the Premier League, Division 1 and Division 2 respectively,” he said
Mwenya said that his position would be known in due course, adding that for now he remained committed to serving his club and Zambian football at large.
“In my last 10 years at the helm of Mine Police, we have nurtured a number of Zambian players such as Chongo Kabaso at T.P Mazembe, Mwape Musonda who is now the current top scorer in the premier Soccer League in South Africa and Nkana’s 2013 winning coach, late Masauso Mwale was our coach before moving to Nkana,’’ he said.
But when pressed further Mwenya denied he was the sponsor of the online media endorsements he had been receiving.
Mwenya denied having had any connections to the said online articles that have continued to make way on social media, adding that he did not know some of the people that had been writing about him.
FAZ will next year go to its elective general meeting under its new constitution which has reduced its electoral college from 204 to 89 to conform it with FIFA guidelines. So far only expelled FAZ committee member Blackwell Siwale has openly announced his intentions to run for FAZ presidency.
