A MAN of Lusaka who flatly refused to reconcile with his son in the Chelstone Local Court due to serious misunderstandings eventually changed his stand after being counselled.

Before Chelstone senior local court magistrate Charity Milambo and Presiding Magistrate Kennedy Mwansa Mutale was Elias Changwe,62, of Kalingalinga  who  was sued by his son Bright Changwe of the same area for reconciliation.

Bright sued his father on allegations that they had been having serious misunderstandings in the family and wanted to reconcile.

“I want us to reconcile with my father because ever since my mother died in 2017 my siblings and I have never had a good relationship with our father,

“I am in my last year at one of the universities in Zambia, and as a man I will need a father’s help at a certain point, said Bright

But his father plainly told court that he did want to reconcile with his son because he had been ridiculed enough.

“I am not ready for reconciliation because I have been ridiculed enough since the death of my wife. I am refusing to reconcile with him,” he told court.

In submission Changwe asked his father to forgive him.

Magistrate Milambo observed that forgiveness was done for people to get well and move on.

“God forgave us so we ought to forgive others. There are a lot of blessings in forgiveness; your son has come in the open to apologise which is a rare privilege nowadays,

“God forgave our sins on the cross who are we not to forgive our fellow brothers and sisters. If only you can reconcile with your son, God will bless you and you will never lack,” said Magistrate Milambo

Having heard the good counsel from the court, Changwe senior said he was willing to reconcile with his son and the two were reconciled.
