IN what seemed like a scene form a Hollywood movie, a 58 year old former Zambia Army officer, identified as Chrispine Mwansa, has been arrested for opening fire on a crowd in Ten Miles area killing one person and injuring others.

The former military man opened fire at a crowd killing a 12 year old girl and injured three others who have sustained injuries.

Police spokesperson Esther Katongo confirmed the incident in a telephone interview.

She identified the suspect as Mwansa of Machaya Village, Chief Mungule of Chibombo a retired Staff Sergeant in the Zambia Army.

She said that the ex-soldier shot at four persons namely female juvenile Naomi Chiyesu aged 12 years who sustained gunshot wound on the left hand and chest and later died on arrival at Matero Level One Hospital, Felistus Chisanga aged 48 years of Kalabo Village, Chief Mungule who sustained gunshot wound on the right palm.

Ms Katongo disclosed that others are Astridah Mpande aged 22 also of Kalabo Village who sustained gunshot wound on the neck and Theresa Phiri aged 29 of Chilanga’s Musekese farm who sustained gunshot wound on the left arm.

She explained that a pistol was used in the act and has been recovered from him with 12 rounds of ammunition.

“The three victims are currently admitted in Matero Level One Hospital whilst the body of the deceased Naomi Chiyesu has been deposited in UTH mortuary awaiting postmodern.

“This occurred on 02nd August, 2020 around 18:00 hours at 10 Miles Market. The suspect is in Police custody, “She said.
