A COUPLE that went to Matero Local Court to end their marriage left smiling after the court managed to reconcile them.
Willy Simbololo, 39, of Desai Compound sued his wife Brona Simbololo, 32, of the same compound for divorce after being in marriage for 14 years and has four children between them.
Willy told Magistrate Miyanda Banda that his wife would usually leave home on weekends and only come back on Monday mornings without explanation.
“One time I went out to buy a bulb and I found her walking in the road drunk with a man. I took her home and I was talking to her about her late coming and she started shouting at me.
“I slapped her and then my son asked me to leave her alone of which I did. She went to sleep elsewhere that night and only came the following day at 18.00 hours,” he said
He said Brona did not have relatives in Lusaka and he wanted to find out where she went.
“I called her grandma to inquire if she had an aunt around but she denied and asked me to ask her where she goes,” he said
In defence Brona said her husband always had a lot of money but only gave her K500 for house upkeep which was not enough.
“He would usually say he has a lot of money but he buys me cheap cell phones while he buys touch screen phones for himself. He only pays for rentals but I usually have to look for money for food. I leave the house because he beats me.
“This is why I go to sell water at Intercity Bus Station and his mother says he will marry another woman from the village. I usually go to my aunt’s place on weekends but I can’t show him where it is. I want to go to the village for fresh air and I will only come back to our home if he doesn’t shout at me,” said Brona
The court told Brona that it was unfortunate she slept out whenever she was beaten by her husband.
