CHAMBESHI Water Supply and Sanitation Company has embarked on the construction of a weir dam at Kasama’s Lukupa River in a bid to meet 50 percent water supply shortfall. This is to cover 350,000 people in Kasama and Mbala districts.According to the firm, the project is under Integrated Small Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Programme funded through the Government and the African Development Bank (AfDB).Chambeshi Managing Director, Luckson Simumba, announced the development yesterday during a site visit.Mr Simumba said the aim of the project was to provide people with access to improved safe and clean water supply with improved sewerage system. He said this would, reduce water borne diseases as well as increasing company’s revenue collection to 100 percent. He said he was happy that the project was expected to create about 500 jobs for local people.A consultant engineer at Gauff Contractor, Winston Simbeye, said the work was expected to be completed by November next year.

The Zambia Government has since engaged China State to do the work in both Kasama and Mbala districts.
