SIMON MUNTEMBA writes

TWO people have died in a road traffic accident involving a truck registration number ACZ 377, CAZ 3342 T and a Prado registration number BCA 7264 on the Ndola- Kitwe dual carriage way near the Michael Chilufya Sata toll plaza. Zambia Police public relations officer Esther Katongo who named one of the deceased as Peter Masandiko 49, a police officer based in Kitwe and unknown female adult aged between 25 and 30 years said the accident occurred on April 19, at about 18:45 hours. Ms Katongo told the Sun in a statement that the two died on the spot about 150 meters east of the Michael Chilufya Sata toll plaza. “Involved was a truck and trailer motor vehicle registration number ACZ 377, CAZ 3342 T being driven from the eastern to western direction by Webster Makasa , 48 of New Mushili Compound of Ndola and a Prado registration number BCA 7264 which was extensively damaged and was being driven in the same direction as the truck by Peter Masandiko aged 49, a Police Officer based in Kitwe who sustained multiple body injuries and died on the spot. “Also involved was unknown female adult passenger in the Prado aged between 25 and 30 who also died on the spot after sustaining multiple body injuries,” Ms Katongo said. She explained that the accident happened when the driver of the Prado moving at a high speed misjudged the speed of the first vehicle which was slowing down at the humps as he was approaching the Toll Plaza hence hit into the truck from the rear.
