MATHEWS NDANDULA [email protected] Zambia Boxing Federation has withdrawn from the Bingu Wamabingwa boxing invitation tournament taking place in Tanzania. The national boxing federation general secretary Bright Chomba confirmed the development to the media in a statement.“İt is with sadness that the Zambia Boxing Federation Executive Committee wishes to notify the boxing fans that we have withdrawn the Olympic Tokyo 2020 bound team from participating in the above in invitation tournament which is taking place in Dar es Salaam Tanzania from 5th to 12th December 2020.“The major reason for withdrawal is lack of competitiveness for the countries participating in this tournament. Uganda and Kenya which have Olympic qualified boxers withdrew due to reasons beyond their Federations control,” he said.“We look forward to organising firstly a National tournament on the Copperbelt in the next 2 or 3 weeks before we look to an international tournament.”The Zambian Olympic boxers have been in camp at the OYDC Zambia Sports Development Centre.

However, Chomba said the three boxers who qualified for the Tokyo Olympic games will not break camp as a result of the cancellation of the Tanzania invitation tournament instead they will continue being in camp in preparation for the youth games to be held in Tokyo next year.
