LUCY PHIRI WRITES
Two men of Kafue have been dragged to court for attempted theft.
This is a matter before magistrate Webby Chanda in which Gift Mwanza and Trumel Chola were accused of trying to steal underground cables valued at K23,000 property of Zescolimited without lawful authority.
It is alleged that on May 27, in Kafue district of the Lusaka province, Mwanza and Chola attempted to steal underground cables of Zesco limited company all valued at K23,000.
Magistrate Chanda: Did you attempt to steal the said property?
Mwanza and Chola: Yes
Magistrate Chanda: What did you want to do with the property?
Mwanza: I don’t know where I wanted to take them
Magistrate Chanda: Who informed you about the property?
Mwanza: Our friend told us they have a piece work behind Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia NCZ and we followed.
Magistrate Chanda: Why didn’t you ask about the piece work rather than just going there blindly?
Mwanza: We asked but they told us we are going to dig sand.
Both admitted the charge and said they did not steal instead it was just an attempted theft where the other group ran away and only them where caught.
Matter to come up on August 5 for continued trail.
