TWO Zambian athletes have left for France on a one year training programme under the sponsorship of Olympic Solidarity Scholarships
Boxer Benny Muziyo and Judoka Steven Mungandu left Zambia on Wednesday for Yerville to pursue their training programme.
Speaking at their sendoff ceremony, National Olympics Council of Zambia (NOCZ) president Alfred Foloko expressed confidence that the International Federations had picked up the right athletes expected to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Foloko said that the two athletes will be based at the Regional Center Youth and Sports in Yerville, France so that they were given ample chance prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
He said the scholarships would run from May 1, to May 2020, adding the high performance training camp should enable the duo to take part in the qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Foloko urged the athletes to take the scholarships seriously as they were not just going there for sports but carriers of the Zambian flag as well which they should keep flying.
And NOCZ Secretary General Boniface Kambikambi who was with the athletes at the airport, also urged them to be at their best in behavior and train hard towards qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Meanwhile Mungandu said that he was confident of making it to the Olympic Games.
He said both of them would do their best to achieve their dreams of being at 2020 Olympic Games.
Zambia has 8 athletes on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Scholarships.
