POLICE in Solwezi have arrested a 28-year-old man who was found in possession of an AK 47 assault rifle.
This was in a joint operation with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife on Thursday around 21:00 hours at 10 Miles area, along Solwezi Chingola Road.
North-western province Commissioner of police Elias Chushi confirmed the development and identified the suspect as Frederick Kandombi of Kyawama compound.
Mr Chushi said that his officers intercepted a Toyota Corolla registration No BAF 3819 which was being driven by Abel Kaponda of Wisdom Compound in Solwezi.
“And on board the same motor vehicle was one passenger Fredrick Kandombi aged 28 of Kyawama Compound, who was found in possession of one AK47 Rifle nicely wrapped in a white sack,” he said.
He said after further investigations, officers arrested another suspect Albert Masamu aged 52 of Emmanuel area along Solwezi-Chingola Road who had previously been keeping the same gun.
“The second suspect was arrested on Friday around 04:00 hours at his house,” he said.
He said the two have been detained and will appear in court soon.
