The Lusaka magistrates court has jailed a man one year for breaking into a house and stealing property worth K6,420.
Before magistrate Kate Sakwanda was Penias Mvula, 27 accused of breaking into the house of Evans Kaonga on May 10 2020.
Facts before the court were that Mr. Kaonga was at home cleaning the surrounding.
The door was looked but later he went into his house and heard noise coming from the sitting room.
He went to check what was happening and noticed that his laptop and two cell phones and other items were missing.
He went to check outside the house and saw a man running away with a laptop in his hands.
Mr.Kaonga chased after the thief and upon seeing that he was being chased, he put the laptop on the ground and continued running.
Mr. Kaonga picked the laptop and reported the matter to the police
In giving judgement, magistrate Sakwanda said the state had proven its case and found Mvula guilty of the offence of house breaking and theft.
Mvula pleaded for mercy from the court saying he has younger sister whom he looks after and she home alone..
He said if jailed, his late father’s relatives will sell their house as they have been planning to do so.
The court jailed Mvula one year imprisonment.
