NAPSA Stars head coach Mohamed Fathi says the 19 positive cases of Covid-19 recorded will not prevent Pensioners from achieving their target of qualifying for the CAF Inter-club championships.
In an interview before NAPSA Stars’s crucial tie against Buildcon, Fathi said his team is ready and would not be affected by the high numbers of Covid-19 cases recorded at the club.
Fathi said the Pensioners will not look for excuses ahead of the fixture against Buildcon FC because he expected the setback caused by the pandemic which is affecting everyone.
“We are ready for the game tomorrow and we are hoping to continue winning as we started before the lock down.
“The Covid-19 cases will not affect us because we always have a second plan, we are not looking for excuses to play we are looking for a reason to fight to qualify for continental games,” Fathi said.
With 15-players declared Covid-19 positive from the 19 cases recorded at the club it will be interesting to see which players Fathi will rely on to deliver victory at Woodlands Stadium.
NAPSA are third on the 18-team MTN/FAZ league table and a win over Buildcon FC will propel them to the summit of the log led by Nkana who dominate the league with 46 points, one point ahead of NAPSA.
Meanwhile, Buildcon are seeking to maintain their perfect run after they held Power Dynamos to a 1-1 stalemate before they were boosted with three points and three goals for Nakambala Dynamos failure to fulfil their league fixture last week.
Buildcon will seek maximum points to increase their chances of surviving the relegation battle which is tightly contested by teams such as Kansanshi Dynamos, Nakambala Leopards, Mufulira Wanderers and Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy (KYSA).
Buildcon are 13th on the league table with 29 points and a win over NAPSA Stars will escalate them to 12th position currently being occupied by Lumwana Radiants who are on 30 points.
