A COUPLE has appeared in the Nakonde Magistrates Court for trafficking in over two grammes of Cannabis.
Wisdom Sikombe, 30, a farmer and his 27 years old wife Gloria Nawanzi have been arraigned to Court charged with Trafficking in Psychotropic Substances contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
Allegations are that the two jointly and whilst acting together trafficked in 2.2 grammes of Marijuana, a herbal product of Cannabis Sativa without lawful authority or medical recommendation.
The incident is said to have happened on 31 July 2020, and the two were apprehended on the very day.
When the two appeared for plea before Resident Magistrate George Banda, Sikombe admitted the charge, while his wife vehemently denied the allegations.
Court: Accused No. 1 have you understood the charge?
Sikombe: Yes
Court: How do you plead?
Sikombe: I admit.
Court: You admit that on the date in question you trafficked in 2.2 grammes of Marijuana?
Sikombe: Yes.
Court: Did you have any lawful justification?
Sikombe:No.
Court: Accused No.2 have you understood the charge?
Nawanzi: Yes
Court: How do you plead?
Nawanzi: I deny.
Court: Court enters a plea of guilty in respect to A1 and a plea of not guilty in respect of A2.
The matter was adjourned to 18th August 2020 for trial and Facts in respect of Sikombe.
In another case a 48 years old Farmer pleaded not guilty to trafficking in 4 grammes of Marijuana.
David Simukoko was apprehended on 30 July and will appear on 24 August for trial.
All accused person’s are remanded in custody.
