AN ILLEGAL miner has died in Mkushi at former SackoMine Limited after the earth collapsed and buried him alive.
Central province police commissioner Chola Katanga confirmed the accident to the Daily Nation in an interview.
Mr. Katanga said the incident occurred on Friday between 16:00 and 17:00 hours whilst the victim was working.
Mr. Katanga identified the victim as Enock Mupeta 22, of an unknown address in Itala compound.
Mr. Katanga further said after police in conjunction with the fire brigade rushed to the scene where the body was retrieved and pronounced dead upon reaching Mkushi district hospital.
Mr. Katanga added that the body was deposited at Mkushidistrict hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
“Brief facts of the matter are that the victim was working at the Sacko mine. Between 16:00 and 17:00 hours the earth collapsed and buried him alive,” said Mr. Katanga.
Sacko Mine Limited was formerly owned by Sacko Bassiwho has been deported to his native land Mali after allegedly abrogating Zambian laws.
Meanwhile, two grandchildren aged 10 and 12 have discovered the body of their grandfather murdered by unknown people in Mkushi.
The incident occurred on Friday between 08:00hours and 12:00hours at Katwishi area.

Mr. Katanga identified the victim as Isaac Chibwe 73, of Katwishi area who was found dead at home.
Mr. Katanga further said police visited the scene and discovered that the victim had cuts on the head.
“The victim sustained cuts on the head as a blunt object is suspected to have been used in inflicting the injuries.
“Brief facts of the matter are that the victim was at home and was discovered dead by his grandchildren aged 10 and 12 years old between 08:00 and 12:00 hours.” Mr. Katanga said.
