A TWENTY SEVEN year old mentally challenged person, Mutale Chilangwa has drowned in Kalungu stream in Isoka District Muchinga Police Commissioner Joel Njase has said.
Mr Njase said the victim who was mentally challenged left his home on June 20 and never returned home.
In a statement, Mr Njase said that the victim was from KalunguVillage, Chief Kafwimbi, and that he had an unusual habit of sneaking from the home and returning after some days.
Mr Njase said that the family members got concerned and reported the matter to the village Headman and a search was conducted in all the possible areas where they suspected that he could be found but to no avail.
“On June 25 around 11:30 Lawrence Siwakwi 53 went at KalunguStream for fishing and found the body of the victim floating in the stream. The family members were informed and they identified the body to be that of Mutale Chilangwa,” he said.
Mr Njase said that the police who visited the scene managed to retrieve the body from the stream with the help of the village residents. The body was in a decomposed state making it difficult for the officers to observe any peculiarities.
He said the body was handed over to the family members for burial since no foul play was suspected as it was a decomposed state. The family was further advised to bury and mark the grave for possible exhumation and an inquiry file has since been opened.
