THE Lusaka magistrates court has jailed a landlords grandson two years for stealing a phone worth K4,000 from tenant.
Before magistrate Nsunge Chanda was Lifundo Sitana 23 of new Kabwata accused of stealing an iPhone property of Natasha Phiri worth K4,000.Facts were Sitana went to knock at Phiri’s house but she did not open for him.Sitana forcefully opened the door, entered her house and immediately she shouted for help.Sitana grabbed the phone, started running and she chased after him.She shouted for help and members of the public chased after Sitana whom they apprehended at the railway line.Phiri reported the matter to the police but the phone was not recovered.Sitana pleaded for mercy from the court saying he made a mistake and will never repeat.He said what caused him to steal was because his grandmother is sick and needs medical treatment.He said he wanted to sell the phone and use the money to buy medicine for her treatment.He said if jailed his grandmother and young sister will suffer.Magistrate Chanda said Sitana could have found a better way to get the money as he is young and able to work.
The court jailed Sitana two years imprisonment with hard labor.
