A 68-YEAR-OLD Village Headman has been dragged to the Choma Subordinates Courts on allegations that he assaulted one of his subjects.
In this matter Jackson Muzyamba, a Village Headman of Nankonje Village of Chief Macha’s Chiefdom in Choma is charged with Assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to section 248 of chapter 87 of the penal code of the laws of Zambia.
It is alleged that Muzyamba assaulted Donald Simakala and thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm.
The alleged assault is said to have happened on 21 April, 2020 in Choma district of Southern Province.
When he appeared for plea before Senior Resident Magistrate Idah Mupemo, the Headman vehemently disputed the allegations made against him.
Court: Have you understood the charge against you?
Muzyamba: I have understood.
Court: Do you admit or deny?
Muzyamba: I know nothing about this case.
Court: Court records a plea of not guilty.
Following his denial, Magistrate Mupemo adjourned the matter to 1 June, 2020 for commencement of trial after the state applied for an adjournment.
The Headman’s Police bond was extended.
