THE Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) has proposed for a national indaba as a prudent route in resolving the ills in the country ahead of the 2021 general elections.Among the issues EFZ feels must be discussed at the national indaba, is the privatization of state assets, gassing, political tribalism, Barotseland issue and corruption.Addressing the media in Livingstone, EFZ South Board Chairperson Reverend, Boston Sika Simumba, said that an indaba was the only route through which contentious issues could be resolved.Other issues EFZ suggested to be addressed were the failing economy, Zambia Police service professionalism in the conduct of their duties, judicial system and the Public Order Act.Rev Simumba said, EFZ as one of Church Mother Bodies, had registered its considered prophetic concerns which must be addressed urgently.“Although churches should not officially endorse candidates for public offices, that does not mean that Christians should not run for public offices or church should not speak out clearly on moral issues that concerns the nation,” Rev Simumba said. The EFZ South Board Chairperson observed that the Public Order Act had been unfairly administered in as far as gatherings were concerned.
“We strongly advise that a fair way should be applied to both the ruling and opposition parties alike. Let us learn to forgive each other no matter what happened in the past,” he said.
