RESIDENTS of Chilenje Township have called on the Lusaka City Council to build proper drainage system in the area.
The residents are concerned that the existing drainage system was poor because each time it rained the roads became impassable and the water flowed into their yards.
One resident William Kapalo said the drainages in the area were failing to move away rain water which consequently flowed into people’s houses.
“We are asking the council to build proper drainages in the area. We have been complaining about this for a long time and nothing has changed, it is time that the council came in,” Kapalo said.
Another resident Juliet Mwila said some of the flooding would have been avoided if only the council would take strategic measures to avert the floods.
“In my yard there are floods each time it rains, it is inconveniencing and unhealthy because water from these drainages carries with it waterborne diseases,
“We want the council to build more drainages in Chilenje, we have suffered enough,” Mwila said. However, Michael Nyirenda said most drainages in the area were old and dilapidated there by causing blockages ffffffff fff
