FORMER World Boxing Council (WBC) champion Catherine Phiri’s rematch fight against Fatuma Zarika of Kenya in the super bantamweight category has been set for March 23 in Nairobi, Kenya.
Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions (OQBP) communications manager Chris Malunga confirmed the development in Lusaka yesterday.
Malunga said all the people were now looking forward to the fight after the contracts had been signed.
“Catherine Phiri will fight Fatuma Zarika on the 23rd of March in Nairobi, Kenya and we are all looking forward to that fight. We are just waiting for the contracts to be signed, otherwise all is set for this rematch,” said Malunga
Malunga said the fight would be a tough one for Phiri but said that the boxer’s camp had studied the opponent well enough to live to the expectations of local fans. “We know the weaknesses of Fatuma and this time around it will be totally a different fight in Kenya and it will be nice for us to win outside the country because that brings a lot of confidence to our fans and sponsors,” Malunga said.
Malunga told the Sun Sports in Lusaka yesterday that both the former WBC champion and African flight weight champion Alfred Muwowo would be ready for their respective fights. “It is a very important fight for Muwowo and I am very sure he is going to put up a good fight and become the Commonwealth champion. It’s a tough one because it his first time going to UK but that does not put pressure on him,” he said.
He said Muwowo will take to the ring with Jay Harries of the United Kingdom in the Commonwealth flight weight title match on 1st April 1, 2019 in Cardiff city, UK. Muwowo was already in camp preparing for the fight while Phiri went into camp yesterday ahead of her rematch with the Kenyan boxer who announced plans of hanging her gloves this year, but not until she defended her WBC title with the Zambian boxer.
Meanwhile Muwowo has promised a victory for his fans when he goes into the ring against the 28 year old British pugilist.
Muwowo, 21 has a total of 10 fights to his name, all wins with 8 of them being Knockouts while his opponent has a record of 14 fights, all wins with 8 of them being knockouts too.
