A 50-year-old former Magistrate has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Mongu for corrupt practices involving K1200.
Chama Mutambalilo, a former Senanga subordinate court magistrate, is now resident in Lusaka’s Kamwala South.
ACC public relations manager, Timothy Moono, said the suspect has been charged with an offence of obtaining money by false pretences.
“Chama Mutambalilo aged 50, of Kamwala South in Lusaka was charged with one count of obtaining money by false pretences contrary to Section 309 of the Penal Code CAP 87 of the Laws of Zambia,” Mr Moono said.
He explained that the crime was committed between October 1 and July 31, 2016 while the suspect was working as a magistrate at the Subordinate Court in Senanga District.
“The accused on dates unknown but between October 1, 2015 and July 31, 2016 whilst working as a magistrate at Senanga did by false pretences obtain K1,200 from known persons purporting that the money was required as logistical support for him to undertake a court scene visit when in fact not,” Mr Moono said.
He said the former Magistrate had since been released on bond and would appear in court soon.
