A 34-year-old unregistered medical doctor in Kasama has been fine of K10,000 or face six months imprisonment with hard labour for offering health services without a practising certificate.The fine must be paid at the end of this month.In this matter, Gerald Ng’onga of Chitamba Village in Kasama was charged with offering health services without registering with the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ).Ng’ónga was apprehended on September 4, this year after police officers found him attending to a large number of people at his home around 11:00 hours and reported him to HPCZ.When the matter came up yesterday, Ng’onga pleaded guilty before Kasama Resident Magistrate Samson Mumba.However, Legal Aid lawyer Keith Katazo, pleaded for maximum lenience, saying the convict was a first offender.
